The Down Syndrome Association of South Georgia is a new non-profit organization that is currently looking for sponsorships. We are currently applying for our 501c3 status. It takes help from the community and our business partners to make an organization like ours successful.
There are more than 400,000 people living with Down syndrome in the
United States. There is an estimated 500+ people in our area alone living with DS. If you include close family members of individuals with DS, that is an estimated 3000+ people in the Valdosta area alone that have a personal connection with Down syndrome. Any business that becomes a sponsor at this time has a unique opportunity to be a part of this wonderful support service as it develops and grows.
The DSA of South Georgia is looking for sponsors as we undergo the following endeavors:
1. DSA of
South GA plans to provide support and resources for Down syndrome in our area. This support would be offered to new parents, family members or individuals living with Down syndrome. We also plan to offer educational resources through such things as a material library and informative guest speakers.
2. DSA of
South GA is bringing a Buddy Walk to the
Valdosta area. The Buddy Walk was established by the National Down Syndrome Society to bring attention to Down Syndrome Awareness month in October.
The Buddy Walk is a one-mile walk in which anyone can participate without special training. It is a wonderful, heart-warming event that celebrates the many abilities and accomplishments of people with Down syndrome.
3. DSA of
South GA hopes to bring attention to the community in regards to the facts around Down syndrome. The best way to increase tolerance and awareness is through community events and media participation.
